Health & Longevity Summit 2026

Karolina Skonieczna-Żydecka

Professor, microbiome and gut brain axis scientist

Professor and microbiome scientist. Her research centers on the gut microbiota, the gut brain axis and probiotics, with a strongly translational perspective: science interests her most at the point where it leaves the journals and reaches clinical practice, prevention and everyday health.

She is drawn to how something as complex and dynamic as the gut microbiome influences seemingly distant parts of our physiology, from metabolism and immunity to the brain and mental health. Alongside research she works across disciplines, teaches and mentors young scientists.

Outside work she keeps active and believes in balance: good food, movement and time with people she cares about. She also admits to thinking about gut bacteria well after hours.

At ELEVATE, she will take part in a debate on microbiome testing.
