Radical Life Extension and the Latest Ways to Turn Back the Biological Clock: Key Insights from Life Summit Berlin

Radykalne wydłużenie życia i najnowsze sposoby na cofnięcie zegara biologicznego. Kluczowe wnioski z Life Summit Berlin

For several days, Berlin became the European capital of the medicine of the future. During this year’s Life Summit Berlin, experts agreed that the primary goal of modern medicine is now to optimize healthspan, meaning the number of years lived in full health. Although the scientific community continues to debate the limits of human genetics, researchers and physicians are increasingly focused on one key point: we now have access to increasingly precise data that can help keep the body in peak physical and mental condition for decades.

Here is a detailed summary of the trends presented at this prestigious event, whose strategic partner was Poland’s ELEVATE Health & Longevity Summit. The Elevate delegation traveled to Berlin from Poland together with our partners and members of our wonderful community.

The genetic ceiling: the debate over the ultimate limit of human life

The stages of the Berlin conference brought together 3,000 attendees seeking answers to fundamental questions about the future of human health. One of the most memorable presentations was delivered by Dr. Emil Kendziorra.

The German physician, entrepreneur, and founder of the startup Tomorrow Bio emphasized that for many popular antiaging therapies, such as increasing NAD+ levels, calorie restriction, rapamycin, fisetin, or senolytics, there is still no conclusive evidence that they extend the maximum genetic lifespan, or maximum lifespan.

This presentation highlighted a fascinating divide among the speakers:

  • Radical life extension: A different position was presented by Marek Piotrowski, creator of the “Longevity Map” and the Live Beyond project, who appeared on stage with Dr. Olivia Lesslar, who will also join him at ELEVATE in November, and Valerie Ossori. Drawing on his global experience and analysis of research projects conducted at leading scientific institutions, he expressed his belief that technology may eventually break through current biological barriers.
  • Cryopreservation as an alternative: Dr. Kendziorra, taking a more skeptical view of an immediate breakthrough, is developing cryopreservation technology, which involves freezing the human body. The concept assumes that the body could be safely preserved until future medicine reaches a level that allows full cellular regeneration.

The plasticity of biological age under Professor Horvath’s microscope

The undisputed authority in this part of the conference was Professor Steve Horvath, creator of the first widely used epigenetic clock. Horvath surprised me by presenting data suggesting that the popular drug rapamycin does not show antiaging effects in humans, despite the enormous expectations created by spectacular results in mouse studies. However, he pointed to other highly promising areas of intervention:

  • Available solutions with confirmed effectiveness: Horvath cited studies showing that regular supplementation with high quality multivitamin products reduced participants’ biological age by 2.7 to 5.1 months over a two year period.
  • Cardiorespiratory fitness: Analyses based on second generation epigenetic clocks show that a high VO2max level has a strong inverse correlation with biological age.
  • Groundbreaking findings from the United States: A recent 12 week study by American scientists was widely discussed. The researchers found that substances previously used in antiviral therapies for HIV reversed biological clock measurements in healthy participants by as much as 6 years. These promising findings, which require further verification, were analyzed by Dr. Łukasz Sobkowiak, an ELEVATE speaker.

ACCORDING TO AN ELEVATE SPEAKER:

Approximately 35% of human DNA consists of retrotransposons, which are mobile genetic elements capable of moving from one location in the genome to another while replicating themselves. In youth, they are effectively silenced by our epigenetic mechanisms. However, with age, they become reactivated and trigger responses in cells that resemble a viral infection. This phenomenon directly drives chronic inflammation, known as inflammaging, as well as aging processes throughout the body. The FTC/TAF therapy used in the study works by inhibiting the reverse transcription of these cellular transposable elements. As a result, the drug reduces inflammation, lowers key markers such as interleukin 6, or IL 6, and, importantly, shifts the immune system toward a much younger profile by increasing the pool of naive CD4+ T cells. Although the results measured using the PhenoAge and DunedinPACE clocks are revolutionary, we must maintain scientific rigor. For these findings to become permanently established within geroscience, further prospective placebo controlled studies are essential. They must integrate clinical pharmacology with direct measurements of transposon activity and predefined endpoints based on DNA methylation. explains Łukasz Sobkowiak.

A review of premium technologies: 5 dominant trends in the Expo zone

Alongside the panel discussions, the expo zone presented practical and commercial applications of longevity science. As always, this part of the event offered plenty of opportunities to test new solutions and explore the latest trends:

  1. Biomarkers of brain aging, using EEG technology: Presentations by BrainTrip attracted enormous interest. Advanced analysis of the brain’s electrical activity through EEG now makes it possible to precisely map brain waves and translate them into indicators of neuronal aging. This provides a starting point for the development of targeted neuroprotective therapies.
  2. Scalable VO2max diagnostics: Cardiorespiratory fitness has firmly established itself as one of the most important biomarkers of longevity. Modern compact diagnostic devices presented at the expo are moving these advanced tests out of sports laboratories and directly into everyday clinical practice.
  3. Hyperbaric and hypoxic medicine: Oxygen therapies, including HBOT, and training under controlled hypoxic conditions are moving beyond the niche of elite sports and becoming a key element of systemic cellular health optimization for premium patients.
  4. The evolution of regenerative medicine: The field of stem cell based therapies is developing rapidly, largely due to the introduction of innovative and fully ethical methods of obtaining biological material, including from ectopic pregnancies.
  5. The continuing role of NAD+: Supplementation aimed at restoring and maintaining optimal levels of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, or NAD+, remains a foundational standard in biohacking protocols.

See you at ELEVATE in Warsaw this November

Life Summit Berlin demonstrated that longevity medicine is now supported by solid empirical evidence. Aging processes have been broken down into their molecular components, and the key challenge is now applying this knowledge in everyday medical practice and lifestyle.

In Berlin, I met Professor Steve Horvath, aging research legend Aubrey de Grey, American longevity physician Dr. Poonam Desai, as well as Dr. Olivia Lesslar, Monika Zielińska, and Marek Piotrowski

On November 28 and 29, the ELEVATE Health & Longevity Summit will take place at PGE Narodowy in Warsaw. It will be the first event of this scale in Central and Eastern Europe, creating a direct bridge between global science and clinical practice. ELEVATE is where theoretical models of longevity become personalized medical strategies ready to be implemented.

Attending the event at PGE Narodowy should be an essential part of the calendar for anyone who takes a professional and responsible approach to managing their health capital. See you in Warsaw.
